So you’re here because you want to know who we are and what we’re about, right? Well you’re in the right place because we don’t hold back and are an open book.
Here’s the secret to Dana Isles and Facedown:
He’s not much of a secret around here and we like it that way.
But seriously, each of one of us has been gifted by God in specific areas.
Dana Isles is the leader of this rag tag bunch and thus far all of our songs have been completely written by her. She can write, play and best of all sing with the angels. Its a bonus gift to be in a band with her.
I’m Tammy, the drummer/personality of this group and I met Jen, our bassist in school in 1991 and then met Dana in 1995 while getting my Master’s at Eastern.
We all shared a housed and a church. It was great.
We all grew up around music but God birth our instrumentation gifts as adults as we all desired to learn the acoustic guitar through an instructional video. Well, Jen and Dana, I held the remote, but that didn't last too long. Hahaha. :)
From that point on God has been opening doors and we have been like, “What?” “Ok, God.” Well, almost. :) Not long after learning acoustic guitar our pastor asked us to be on the worship team. We barely knew chords but I jumped right in, while Jen and Dana told me and I quote, “You’re nuts.” But they eventually dipped their toes in the water and we’ve all been swimming with the tide of God since then. We were like the three amigos but there was no need for three acoustic guitars and Jen had a background in piano so Dana suggested she play the bass. Jen has been keeping the beat ever since.
Soon after Dana started leading worship and I was left playing acoustic guitar but I had a passion for the drums. Years later, after surrendering complete obedience to God, he gave me the desires of my heart and I’ve been drumming away ever since.
With another worship member we formed the band Broken. After years of touring and gaining popularity in South Jersey, God had other plans. After a few member switch outs, band names and recording an album, more member switch outs, Dana Isles and Facedown emerged. Our percussionist, Jay Parent, a member of our church worship team was added just before the name change and are most recent addition is Mike Parillo, a very talented and Godly man, on lead guitar.
So there we are in a nutshell. We try to be sensitive to where God wants us to go because this is His band and we have just been following this little arrow that lights up saying this way. Ha. Not really, we all wish it were that easy, right? But God has continually opened doors and pushed us. He’s even closed doors and change band members as he saw fit. God has rescued each one of us from deep dark places of sin and death and we are forever grateful for his son Jesus, the opportunity to praise Him and lead others to do the same! We’re everyday people, living everyday lives, struggling to walk the narrow road, but rejoicing in its existence and its tour guide Jesus Christ.
